課程概述

The aim of this course is to introduce advanced concepts on global health associated research design, data retrieval, and more sophisticated statistical analysis methods with practical sessions involved. This course includes two parts: The first part on advanced analytical methods provides an overview of more complex statistical methods for statistical analysis of underlying processes and further inferences of quantitative research data. The second part on advanced epidemiologic research methods offers an overview for cutting-edge methodology of quantitative research design, causal inference, and basis of scientific comparisons. Real-life examples from published articles in the field of global health are illustrated and further elucidated during the course.

課程目標
In the end of the course, students will gain the following core knowledge and competencies:
1. To understand the advanced principles of statistical and causal inference in quantitative research.
2. To realize how to design and conduct quantitative research with a global public health view for explaining research findings.
3. To comprehend the rules of advanced epidemiologic study design in experimental and observational studies for global health.
4. To critically appraise public health literature in depth on validity and applicability.
5. To analyze and evaluate health data sources with the sense of statistical methods, to implement statistical analysis by software, and to correctly explain the analysis outcomes.
課程要求
The slides of each lecture and scientific papers for discussion will be available on the course website for students to download before each class. A preceding e-mail for calling sick before a lecture is essential.
